Best Practices Workshop with Brad Lopes
For many Native students and staff, school can be challenging. With roots in settler colonialism, schools today do not reflect the traditional pedagogies and methodologies employed by Native people for thousands of years. Join Wôpanâak educators as they introduce an array of best practices for approaching indigenous content, working with Native students, and building relationships with sovereign tribal communities. Participants will learn about and discuss multiple pedagogies and methodologies grounded in Indigenous practices and traditions. Exploring epistemologies thousands of years old, this workshop aims to prepare participants to best support Native students, staff, and community members.

Confronting Colonialism in the Classroom Virtual Series: My Culture is Not a Costume Workshop
Halloween has a long history of people dressing as members of cultures other than their own, raising important concerns surrounding cultural appropriation. For Native students and staff, these costumes can often cause an extreme level of discomfort due to how their culture is stereotyped, romanticized, and even sexualized. Similar concerns arise around holidays and traditions that portray the arrival of the Pilgrims, using simplified or stereotypical representations of Native people.
Join Brad Lopes to discuss cultural appropriation related to Halloween costumes and other misrepresentations of Native Americans.

Wampanoag Foodways: Honoring the Harvest
This event is for tribal families only
Join us for a day of cooking, learning, and sharing centered on Wampanoag foodways. Enjoy cooking demonstrations, traditional foods, hands-on activities, games, and opportunities to learn about Wampanoag ingredients, recipes, and food traditions.
With cooking demonstrations from David Vanderhoop, Keely Curliss, and Tysonnae Aiguier-Bolling.
Nôepe: A Wôpanâak History of the Island at Aquinnah Town Hall
Join Brad Lopes, Education & Public Program Manager for the Aquinnah Cultural Center, to explore the history of Nôepe. Drawing from both oral traditions and historical sources, this presentation examines the Island’s landscapes and history, while highlighting the enduring presence of Wampanoag people. Participants will also consider common misconceptions about land use, ownership, and Indigenous history, and gain a deeper understanding of the communities that continue to shape the Island today.
